What’s New in Db2 12….or How Do I keep up with all this stuff…. — Michael Cotignola — BMC

 

We’ll take a cursory look at some of the major new features and enhancements to IBM’s Db2 12, including the new branding ! Technically, this release delivers enhancements in all the usual categories, and introduces us to the Continuous Delivery Model. We’ll conclude by taking a closer look at LOB compression, a much anticipated feature with lots of promise.

 

BIO:
Michael Cotignola is a Principal Software Consultant supporting BMC's Db2 Mainframe Solutions.  In this role, he helps BMC’s clients maximize the value they receive from BMC's Db2 products.  Michael has worked in IT since 1975 in numerous IT disciplines, including operations, application development, and database administration.  He has been working with Db2 since version 1.1.  Prior to joining BMC Software in 1996, Michael was a Managing Consultant for a large telecommunications and technology firm in Canada. Michael was president of IDUG and continues to be involved with IDUG in several capacities.

Db2 for z/OS is Serious About Analytics: Leveraging SQL to Analyze Your Data Where it Resides — Maryela Weihrauch — IBM
 
Db2 for z/OS continues to deliver SQL enhancements that allow you to perform analytics against your mission-critical data. Did you know that Db2 supports various analytical features like RANK, CUBE, ROLLUP, moving averages and moving sums? What if Db2 could perform MEDIAN, PERCENTILE, and LISTAGG? This session will focus on SQL specifically enhanced for performing analytics. Who knows, maybe you can simplify your applications by letting Db2 do the work for you.
 
BIO:
Maryela Weihrauch is an IBM Distinguish Engineer and z Systems Analytics world-wide technical sales and client champion. She has extensive experience with Db2 regarding systems, application, and database design. Maryela is very engaged in enterprises world-wide, driving the adoption of new analytical technologies. Her most recent role in Db2 for z/OS Development has involved determining Db2 z/OS strategy for HTAP (Hybrid Transaction and Analytics Processing). This includes IDAA strategy and implementation, as well as Db2's application enablement strategy. Maryela is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology and frequently shares her experience at conferences.

Access Path Stability on Db2 for z/OS - Best Practices — David Simpson - Themis
 
Db2 has provided some great features for stabilizing performance through changes in the environment, particularly through a Db2 version upgrade.  In this session we will look at the evolution of access path stability over the last few releases and provide some thoughts on best practices for implementation.

David Simpson is currently Vice President at Themis Inc. He teaches courses on SQL, Application Programming, Database Administration as well as optimization, performance and tuning. He also installs and maintains the database systems used for training at Themis. Since 1993 David has worked as a developer and DBA in support of very large transactional and business intelligence systems. David is a certified Db2 DBA on both z/OS and LUW. David was voted Best User Speaker and Best Overall Speaker at IDUG North America 2006. He was also voted Best User Speaker at IDUG Europe 2006 and is a member of the IDUG Speakers Hall of Fame.

Using REXX with Db2 - David Simpson
 
REXX is a great tool on z/OS for administrators and developers to create custom tools that will help them in their day to day work.  REXX also works great with Db2.  This presentation will discuss the REXX/Db2 interface and give you some practical code samples to help you implement scripts in your own environment right away.
