What's new for DB2 Clients and Drivers?

Paul Wirth - IBM

Abstract:

IBM's strategy is to remove the reliance on the DB2 Connect Gateways and replace DB2 Connect with the IBM Data Server Drivers or Clients. While DB2 Connect licenses (in the form of DB2 Connect license files) are still required, you can replace DB2 Connect Gateways with the IBM Data Server Drivers or Clients and receive equivalent or superior function. In addition, you can reduce complexity, improve performance, and deploy application solutions with smaller footprints for your business users. IBM has also simplified the configuration of clients and drivers by replacing the database directory with a single XML configuration file.

IBM Watson And How It Can Access DB2 Data From The Cloud

Stephen Holt - IBM

Abstract:

Cloud Information Management - A quick overview of the IBM Cloud offerings, as IBM is becoming the compute resource for all data projects leveraging both on-site and cloud in the new hybrid-cloud. Focusing on the integration of Open Source with legacy products on the hybrid cloud.

dashDB - Data warehousing in 15 minutes.

dashDB offers a simple and performant data warehouse, with the scale and agility of the cloud. IBM’s data warehouse-as-a-service delivers high speed insights, in-database analytics, and connects seamlessly with a wide ecosystem of business intelligence toolsets, including Watson Analytics and many third-party BI tools. dashDB is offered as a fully-managed IBM service. A second deployment option is currently in early access preview for software defined environments (SDE). Take this preview wherever you want to go via container technology, such as a private cloud.

IBM Watson And How It Can Access DB2 Data From The Cloud

James Brooks - IBM

Abstract:

With more data available than ever before and the need for business users to be able explore, predict, and present the data faster than ever before, Watson Analytics gives end users a cloud-based smart data discovery tool. We will learn where Watson Analytics fits into the bigger Watson family of cognitive tools. Next, we will see how to upload data into Watson Analytics from Excel, DB2, or Twitter. Watson Analytics will help us with suggestions of what relationships or patterns are in the data, and we will ask questions in regular English to explore the data. We will see how we can quickly find relationships that predict and how Watson Analytics arrived at that decision. Finally, we will put output from the exploration and predictions into a presentation format to share our new insights.

Bio:

James works as an IBM Analytics Technical Sales Specialist for Core DB in the Northeast region. With 25 years of data analysis and performance, James started in Sales Reporting at Levi Strauss and Co. writing FOCUS reports and has developed and analyzed data warehouses, XML interface ETLs, Oracle and DB2 application performance benchmarks, J2EE applications, and now cloud-based cognitive systems.

DB2 for z/OS Leadership in the Era of CAMS

Jeff Josten - IBM

Abstract:

DB2 for z/OS and IBM z Systems provide a foundation for leading DBMS capabilities that are required by today's and tomorrow's mission critical applications. Recent technical advancements in DB2 and z Systems have extended these capabilities for the new era of cloud, analytics and mobile. This presentation reviews some of the more notable deliverables in the current DB2 10 and 11 releases. This session will also take a look at the next DB2 release, DB2 12, which is currently in customer beta testing.

Bio:

Jeff Josten is an IBM Distinguished Engineer and the lead architect of DB2 for z/OS. He has worked in DB2 Development at the IBM Silicon Valley Lab since 1985. He owns several patents in the area of data base technology, and is a frequent speaker at user group and customer meetings.
